The all-important information page.

Here hopefully all of your questions will be answered.

The most commonly asked questions are:

How fast does it go?

With the type of motorized bicycle that we generally work with (the most common 66cc 2-stroke model) the average top speed you can expect is between 30-40mph with normal operating speeds just under that.

Various engine upgrades and add-ons are available that can add considerable increases in top speeds.

What kind of gas mileage can I expect?

The 66cc models have been calculated to get anywhere from 100-150 miles per gallon of 2-stroke mix.

How much does a motorized bike cost?

The answer to this question really depends on a few key factors:

(1) What kind of bicycle is going to be motorized?

(2) What kind of engine is mounted onto the bike frame.

(3) Whether you build the bike yourself or have someone do it for you.

(4) What is the cost of the accesories for the bike, e.g. safety lights, upgrade parts etc.

The simple answer is: Probably less than $450 for a basic set up (new bike/new engine)

If you want to put a new engine on a used bike it's even less, probably around $300.

What is a motorized bicycle?

It's a bicycle with an engine or electric motor attached! Motorized bicycles in one form or another have been around for a long time. The first was created in France in 1869 and it was powered by steam engine! In modern times there exists many variations of motorized bicycles with propulsion systems generally limited to traditional gasoline or electric motors. All motorized bicycles, however can still be propelled with regular bicycle pedals.

What are the laws regarding motorized bicycling?

Legally speaking, Motorized bicycles, thus far, have not been explicitly defined within Alabama law. In many cases, however, they are treated as a part of the category of motor vehicles known as Motor-Driven-Cycles:"Every motorcycle, including every motor scooter, with a motor which produces not to exceed five brake horsepower nor to exceed 150 cubic centimeter engine displacement, and weighs less than 200 pounds fully equipped, and every bicycle with motor attached." -(From Alabama Code Section 32-1-1.1)
